Where Does the Time Go?
Guess the first update should be that my knee is coming along very well. I am wearing a hinged brace for now which allows a lot more movement. My range of motion is at about 56% which is pretty good considering I started out with about 25%. Still a long way to go before I hit that 100% mark. My doctor did say it could take 6 months before I was there and I believe it since at 3 months I'm at 56%. Not sure if percent is the right word that they use but you get my drift. Therapy has helped a bunch. I go 2x a week and she pushed me pretty well. I think lately she has been pushing even harder. I'm thinking she wants me to be at 60 or more by my next doctor visit....hopefully it will be. I have a set of several exercises that I can do at home so that helps too. Of course there are some days that the knee feels just too stiff to get most of them done. It's funny how you really don't realize how much you bend your knee in a day! Oh well enough about my knee. It's at least getting better and that is a great thing! One day I may be back to walking and jogging for exercise again.
Let's see what else is going on....hmmm....well hard to believe but Ashley is in the 4th grade now. Where did that time go? She is still very active with her sports. This year she is playing volleyball again for school (they're getting better but still not a lot of action), she is playing soccer (her 1st love) for school and also she is playing on a select soccer team which she really likes. They play 8 v 8 for some reason instead of the 11 v 11 so there is a lot more playing time since there is only 12 girls on the team. They have their 2 sets of uniforms, a backpack for their clothes, shoes, ball, etc with their number on it and just got a sweat suit jacket with their number and team name on it. She is playing for AJAX. So far they have won the 1st game and tied the second. Hopefully they will continue on this way for the rest of the season. The team will be traveling sometime in March to a soccer tournament in Memphis (this so reminds me of when Eric was playing select and we traveled to different tournaments). Should be fun! She gave up girls scouts this year and will probably not play basketball either unless of course the girls at school take her into it but I'm doubting it. So far she is doing good in school hope that keeps up too.
Ok now what do I talk about...hmmm not been doing too much basically the same ole things, cleaning, errands and of course facebook. Trying to see now that I am more mobile if I can finish or at least attempt to finish cleaning up my basement...lol. Not sure what else I can talk about so guess it's time to stop and see if I can get this posted.
So until next time.....Live Life to the Fullest and Enjoy a glass of Wine!

Here I Go Again!
Let's start out by saying I have been shamed into updating my blog again by my sister Carrol (who I might add had not done hers for awhile). Well like Carrol I guess I have to start current and go back as far as I can remember which I'm sure won't be too long. I wish I could be more diligent like my niece Jaime who keeps her blog up on a regular basis, but oh well I'm not perfect....lol
Ok here goes. In case you have not heard I have decided that exercising is hazardous to your health. While doing one of my morning walks on June 19, 2010, I had no sooner begun (heart rate wasn't even up yet)when it came to a crashing halt. I tripped over a crack in the sidewalk and came tumbling down and fell flat on my knee. At first I was more embarrassed than anything especially since a lawn care worker saw me go down. I didn't know for sure if I was hurt or not but just didn't feel right. When he came over to help me up, that's when I knew for sure I was definitely hurt. Took one look at my right knee and knew something was either pulled out of place or broke. So here I am sitting on the sidewalk next to a busy street with no cell phone or anyway to get up and leave. Hmmmmm, well thanks to my lawn care guy who by the way, was Mexican and didn't speak alot of English, offered me the use of his cell phone. I tried calling Rich, who was exercising at the same time only different location, but no luck. I did leave him a message that I had fallen and was going to call 911 for help and that this was not my phone. Tried calling Kim too, but no such luck there either. So it was 911 or nothing. Called 911 and of course they want an address or location, what could I say but that I'm sitting on the sidewalk across from a Walgreen's and a nursery school. Well she found the location and was going to send the ambulance out right away. The police arrived first followed shortly by the ambulance. Well thankfully, they got me on a stretcher and hooked me up to all kinds of things and off we went. First time ride in an ambulance not so bad all things considered.
Ok we are now at the hospital and still hadn't gotten a hold of Rich yet. ER rooms are sure different than what I thought they would be. Everyone was very helpful and of course 1001 questions kept being asked. Finally, asked if there was a phone I could use and sure enough 1 right in the ER room with me. Needless to say Rich was already on his way here. He kind of figured this is where I would be from my message. On a side note he saw the ambulance take off from the firehouse. Well after x-rays and whatever else, verdict came back broken knee cap or the patella as it is known by. So needless to say I was being admitted into the hospital. Surgery would probably be done Sunday morning or at least that's what I thought....ha ha! After being admitted and taken to a room I find out that the doctors there were not going to do surgery as planned due to my heartrate being low (think this is normal for me. They want to do a series of test before surgery just to make sure everything is ok. Well needless to say surgery was postponed until Tuesday morning (6-22-10). I can say I have now had a stress test without using a treadmill...they just inject some medicine into your IV and it mimics the effect of a treadmill. Results came back and they decided it would be to go ahead with the surgery. Let me tell you waiting for the time to come is very nerve-racking. When they did finally come for me to take me down to the pre-op room it was not what I expected. Talk about feeling like you are in a loading dock..... not a good feeling. Finally, came to give me something and wheel me down to the operating room and from there don't remember anything until waking up in the recovery room. After a couple of hours was finally wheeled back up into my room and all I can say is Thank Goodness for pain pills! And before I forget, I woke up with a full leg cast, heavy heavy. Well, after a week in the I was finally released to go home me and my new best friend a heart monitor (still trying to figure out why it goes so low at times).
Oh well back home and took over Ashley's bed ours was just too high to try and get up on. After a month, I'm still in there. One good thing was that instead of having the cast on for a month it was only on for 2 weeks, leg shrunk too much cast was slipping, so now I am in a long knee immobilizer brace, had it for 2 weeks and will have it for another 2 weeks, and then into a hinged brace. The good news is the knee is healing quite nicely and everything looks like it should be at this stage. No broken wires or spacing between the breaks. The surgeon was really happy that the 1st 2 weeks were spent in the cast as that is the most important in the healing process. Long story short I am healing but still have a ways to go. Therapy will come probably in the next few weeks. That's going to hurt!....
Ok now that I rambled on and on about my leg guess I should find something else to talk about. Hmmmm, well missed 4th of July due to knee, missed Ashley's last softball games due to knee, missed a couple of Red Hat Luncheons due to knee, missed going to the Muny due to knee. Ok let's face it I haven't done anything in the last month due to my knee and I can't remember anything before that. So sorry guys, but this will have to do for this time. I'm sure you won't be asking me to update my blog anytime to soon now again will you?
Until next time remember to live life to the fullest and drink wine!

Let's see we had Eric make a base cabinet for us so that we could put a wine rack ontop of it to get it up off the floor so we didn't have to bend over so far to see the wine....we are definitely getting old. Anyway the cabinet turned out great and we now have a start on a wine cellar. As for Eric he is still not working hope the economy turns around soon. Its pretty pathetic, when you can make as much on unemployment as some jobs and that ain't much. As for Kim she is still working at the casino thank goodness. Guess people always find money to gamble with. Rich is busy working and also hoping the economy turns around. As for me still busy traveling between my house and Kim's every week to watch the little princess Ashley. At least Kim is on days now so I now have Sat nights home...yippee! Alot better than it was. As for miss Ashley she is in 3rd grade getting smarter and smarter all the time. She is busy playing basketball and indoor soccer now, and of course there is Brownies and an afterschool art class and whatever else she can think of to try. Basketball will soon be over and then softball will start and probably some outdoor soccer. I wish I had half of her energy, but at least she keeps us busy going to games.
Ok enough of all this, I said it wouldn't be much or that exciting, but its the best I could come up with this time. I will try and do better from now on even if its just to say Hi.
So until next time

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
Ashley has finished playing soccer for the spring season. She was playing on both an indoor and outdoor team. That kept us busy pretty much on the weekends just going to her games. Of course, since I'm am usually down at Kim's on the weekends anyway I didn't have to travel that much. Poor Rich had to travel back and forth so he could see her games. God love him, he's really a good Papa! I imagine now you are thinking that soccer is over and whatever shall we do with all that spare time on the weekends now....don't hold your breath cause Ashley has now started up softball for the season again! So we will again be attending games on the weekends and Rich will be traveling back and forth again! Gotta love grandkids they do keep you young!
Along with sports Ashley also had to get ready for her 1st Communion which was April 26th. Thank goodness I didn't have much to do cause it might not have gotten done. All the second graders looked very pretty/handsome and very angelic (hope they never lose that innocence). It was truly a very nice sevice long but good. 65 kids took part in their 1st communion. Thanks goes to Nana (Tony's mom) for buying the dress, shoes, veil, etc for this event and I must say she did an excellent job. Ashley's dress was beautiful, yet simple and elegant and of course Ashely was beautiful in it.
Let see what else is relatively new oh yes, had some company. What a wonderful time we had. Mom, Jacque, and Jim came for a visit. Thanks to Jim's company there was a convention here in St. Louis that Jim was going to attend, so Jacque fingured why not come and stay with us and I am glad they did. We had a great time! There was nothing planned or expected for the week. And believe it or not we still ran out of time for things we wanted to do, how does that happen? Mom, Jacque and I went to a little tea house restaurant for lunch one day and boy it was good. I hadn't been to that one in awhile so I forgot what good food they had. We also went to the local mall one day to go to Bed Bath & Beyond for a popcorn maker and then wandered around the mall and of course the food court was going to be our 1st stop, but instead we ended up at the Chevy's in mall there and boy are we glad we did. Let see a couple margaritas later and a quesadilla we were very relaxed and enjoying ourselves. Yum they were good. But as usual all good things must come to an end. It was very sad to see them leave but we had a great time while they were here (maybe they'll come back sometime again).
Thats probably all the exciting things I can remember for the last couple of months and now its back to the same old routine. Spend half my time at home and the other at Kim's. At least now I can get back into my routine of working out regularly. Love that exercising!
So this is it for now and hopefully I won't wait so long to update again. Take care, enjoy life, and love to the fullest!

Ok, Since I was Tagged.....
Ron, Rich, EJ (Eric)
Arn't they a dashing group of men. This is actually Eric's first suit in ever. He actually wanted to buy a suit so he would have one to wear to weddings, funerals, etc. I must say he looked very handsome in it too. He picked out the suit, shirt, tie, and shoes, and did a great job. Of course I had to go with him to help pick out and ended up paying for it.....how does that work??? Anyway, this was my 6th picture. Not sure who else Jaime tagged so for now I too will not be tagging anyone since she already got Sharon and Carrol.
On a different note today was Ashley's first indoor soccer game. The team has never played indoor before and no practices. They did an amazing job of playing the boards and working together. Ashley scored her first indoor goal and almost had another. Her team won 4 to 1. She loved playing it but did get a little tired of running (we told her indoor is much faster than outdoor). Don't think she believed us at first but now she does.
Well, can't think of anything else to say right now, so until next time, remember to live life to the fullest, love lots, and have fun!
